Climb Kilimanjaro safely

All routes: Open and private climbs: Charity challenges

Book your Kilimanjaro climb direct for great prices and quality

Our goal is to help all our climbers summit safely and have a really enjoyable climb. To do this we operate our own climbs so we control every aspect of your trip. We don't just take bookings then sub-contract your safety and enjoyment to someone else. If you book with us you climb with us.

The real benefit for you is that you have a better chance of summiting. On the 7 day Machame we have only had one person not summit in the last 12 months. And if you read out testimonials you will see clients have lots of fun along the way.

We offer three options to climb Kilimanjaro: open groups, private climbs and charity challenges. Whichever you choose our prices for Kilimanjaro climbs are inclusive of everything you might want, except items of a personal nature and flights. No hidden extras.

Private climbs are your own personal tailor-made adventure. Your choice of dates, route and options, your own dedicated team and as a result the highest success rate. Perfect for a group of friends or a charity group. You can upgrade to a private climb from as little as £10 per person per day depending on the size of the group.

Open groups are great for those who want the company of others while they climb Kilimanjaro. Our group climbs start every Monday (June- October, December - March). They are limited to a maximum of 12 and are guaranteed to run with a minimum of 2 people. Particularly popular are our open full moon climbs which run every month.

Charity challenges are our unique approach to charity groups that give you six great benefits

  • No minimum fundraising so you don't have to worry about a huge target
  • Total flexibility on the self-funding element
  • Ultra-low deposits of £100 pp for charity climbs so you can get started very easily
  • Best prices so more of the money you raise goes to your charity
  • Donation of £25 to your charity for each climber who successfully summits
  • 100% refund for you and your sponsors if you have to cancel

Check these six out against the other charity challenge companies!

And if you are still confused by all the different operators try our checklist to help you find the right firm for your Mount Kilimanjaro. It was developed by us with the Times Newspaper so you can be sure of the ultimate Mount Kilimanjaro climb.

Our "Plan your climb" has all the Kilimanjaro Facts you need to plan your climb.

Our checklist for choosing a Kilamanjaro climb operator

In conjunction with the Times Newspaper we developed this checklist to help you plan your Kilimanjaro climb and avoid the problems that still happen far too often

  1. Is the Kilimanjaro operator a member of ABTA or similar body?

Membership of a recognised travel body, while not a guarantee of quality on Kilimanjaro, is a good indication that the firm you are looking at is reputable and trustworthy. Many of the Kilimanjaro operators are actually virtual companies with little more than a website. Also an organisation like ABTA can provide you with help if you have a problem with the Kilimanjaro operator themselves

  1. Are they financially bonded?

Bonding means that whatever happens you are protected financially for your Kilimanjaro climb. If a company sells you a trip up Kilimanjaro and you live in Europe, wherever they claim to be based, they are breaking the law if they do not offer you this protection. Besides the risk to your money, would you want to put your life in the hands of a company to climb Kilimanjaro that is happy to flout laws designed for your protection?

  1. Do they have public liability insurance?

Again this is a legal requirement if you are going to sell a Kilimanjaro climbing package to anyone living in Europe. Not only does the insurance provide security a Kilimanjaro operator cannot get insurance without having well prepared operational and risk management plans so it is another good sign of quality. Some Kilimanjaro operators claim it is impossible to get insurance for Kilamanjaro climbs. This is nonsense - they just do not want to pay.

  1. Does the Mt Kilimanjaro operator have a valid Tanzanian Tourist Board operating licence?

In order to operate legally providing Kilimanjaro climbs in Tanzania operators have to be licensed by the TTB. Some operators avoid this scrutiny by borrowing another firm's licence. This is illegal and a sure sign of bad practice but it goes on a lot.

  1. Does the company selling the Kilimanjaro climb sub-contract to someone else or do they run their own team?

A lot of the web-based Kilimanjaro operators are actually no more than selling operations and in some cases can be no more than a man and a phone who then subcontracts a local Tanzanian company to run the climb. There are some good local operators but if you don't know who is actually running your climb how can you know if they are any good.

  1. Does the Kilimanajaro climb operator provide a minimum of two qualified guides on every trip (even for a single person) and a minimum ratio of 1 guide for three climbers?

Two guides for even one climber might seem excessive but even guides can get ill or even have an accident. With two or more climbers, maintaining a high guide ratio ensures that the needs of every climber can be looked after while going up Kilimanjaro

  1. Can you tailor-make your Mt Kilimanjaro trip or do you have to stick to a fixed itinerary?

Fixed itinerary trips can be a cheap way to climb Kilimanjaro but they offer no flexibility and have a much lower success rate. Climbing Kilimanjaro the way you want to at your own pace is the best route to success

  1. Are you being offered a private or group climb?

Group climbs can be cheaper but again the real price is that the success rate is lower. If you are spending nearly £2000 isn't it worth that little bit more to give yourself the best change of summiting. Kilimanjaro. If you join a group of 10 the chances of a problem spoiling the attempt on the summit increase rapidly. Do you want to fail because someone else has a problem or do you want to walk at somebody else's pace for 7 days?

  1. What is the quality of the equipment they use on the Mt Kilimanjaro?

Kilimanjaro can be a very tough environment and to provide you with a comfortable experience you need high quality tents both for sleeping and dining. A small cramped tent that leaks can totally spoil your Kilamanjaro climb

  1. Can they offer flexibility in your scheduled Kilimanjaro climbing itinerary if for example your flight is cancelled or your luggage delayed?

Flight delays and lost luggage are an all too familiar part of life in Africa. If you miss your scheduled start time for a climb can the operator flex your schedule so that your adventure is not ruined.

  1. What happens to the climb up Kilimanjaro if one of your group falls ill and has to descend?

Sadly it is a fact that some people will get sick on Mount Kilimanjaro and will be forced to descend. If this happens to someone in your group is it possible to continue so that at least some can summit.

  1. Check what is included in the price quoted?

Compare costings carefully- even some of the largest Kilimanjaro operators even miss out the cost of the Kilimanjaro Park Fees in the prices and add these on as a locally paid cost. And these can be as much as £500 per climber!

  1. What customer references can they provide?

Do not just rely on testimonials- for Kilimanjaro climbs it is far too easy to create fictional testimonials. Get some email addresses and check out previous customers who have climbed Kilimanjaro yourselves.
